Catarina, based in Lisbon, Portugal, has an extensive background of working with tax and custom matters. Catarina began her professional career in Deloitte's Indirect Tax division. She left Deloitte to join Portuguese leading law firm VdA, which she integrated for almost a decade and in which she played a successful role in the challenge of developing the firm's tax practice area, especially in the field of indirect tax and customs. Now, at the age of 35, Catarina is the founder of her own law firm, Belim Legal Services, with a special focus on Tax, Customs and International Trade. Within Belim, Catarina provides multi-skilled assistance to clients, covering practical and comprehensive legal, tax and customs advice, representation in litigation cases and active assistance on compliance, reporting, invoicing and licensing matters. Catarina is more and more focusing on international trade and customs issues, advising on international supply chain transactions, origin rules, exports controls, customs value and licenses matters. Catarina's work has obtained recognition both by clients and peers, with several references being made in the main specialized international Directories as International Tax Review and Best Lawyers. Since 2012, she has been consecutively listed by International Tax Review as Indirect Tax Leader for Portugal. At international level, Catarina is a member of AIJA - International Association of Young Lawyers Tax Law Commission. Within this organization, Catarina was appointed as the General Reporter and organizer of AIJA's 2017 Annual Congress Tax Session, which will focus on the topic Artificial Intelligence. Catarina also participates in specialized bodies such as IVA - International VAT Association and GLCA - Global Legal Customs Association. At national level, Catarina is a proud member of ANJAP - Portuguese National Association of Young Lawyers, in which, as of 2017, she was appointed as head of the Tax Commission Indirect Tax group. Since 2015, Catarina is a Certified Arbitrator for VAT and Excise Duties matters next to Portuguese Administrative and Tax Arbitration Centre, Ministry of Justice. Catarina publishes regularly about VAT and Customs and is a frequent speaker on indirect tax and customs issues and is active in promoting events for the discussion and further development of these matters.
